Palmitoyl Dipeptide-5 Diaminobutyroyl Hydroxythreonine

A synthetically made peptide that was designed to target the dermo-epidermal junction, where it should stimulate the production of structural proteins. It has not been clinically tested yet.

Overview

Palmitoyl Dipeptide-5 Diaminobutyroyl Hydroxythreonine is the very long name for a synthetically made peptide, trademarked under the name SYN®-TACKS.

It belongs to the class of signal proteins and targets the thin, but very important, layer of tissue that connects the epidermis and dermis (dermo-epidermal junction or DEJ). This tissue layer is wavy in young skin, the waves held together by collagen strands. When the collagen strands give up or break during the aging process, the epidermis caves in, creating wrinkles.

The manufacturer claims that this ingredient stimulates the production of Laminin V, Collagens IV, VII and XVII, and Integrin β4, thereby strengthening the dermo-epidermal junction.

Unfortunately, there are no other independent studies that can confirm this claim.
