Overview

Zingiber officinale root extract is extracted from the roots (or rhizomes) of ginger. The ginger root is commonly pickled, candied, or used as a spice.

This extract is used for its scent and (probable) anti-inflammatory properties in skincare. It can increase blood circulation when applied topically, which helps with skin healing and skin metabolism.

The main active constituents of the fresh ginger root are gingerols, which change into zingerone when the ginger root is dried, or into shogaols when the root is cooked.

Ginger root extract has multiple uses in Indian traditional medicine (Ayurveda) but has also found its uses in western medicine. It is used to treat inflammation, a sore throat, and to boost the immune system. Ginger extracts, when taken orally, are a potent phytotherapeutic remedy against nausea and vomiting, safe even for pregnant women suffering from morning sickness.
