Overview

Vitis vinifera seed oil is one of the most beloved oils in skincare, and rightfully so. It is an emollient and occlusive moisturizing ingredient, often used as a base oil for cosmetic products.

Its favorable composition makes it suitable for all skin types – the majority of triacylglycerols is made up of linoleic acid (up to 75%), followed by lesser amounts of oleic (15%), palmitic (7%), and stearic (3%) acid. It also contains tocopherols (vitamin E), carotenoids, and phytosterols, which have antioxidant properties. Grapeseed oil also contains squalene, which is a compound found naturally in skin sebum.

Grapeseed oil is produced from the seeds that are leftover after juicing or wine production. The cold-pressed grape seed oil is yellow, with a soft, nutty aroma and taste. Due to the low content of linolenic acid, it is fairly stable.

It is not only used in skincare products, but also in nutritional supplements and as a gourmet oil in salad dressings.
