Undaria pinnatifida extract is a humectant extract obtained from Wakame, an edible seaweed native to Japan, Korea, and China.
It contains an algal polysaccharide called fucoidan, which has many research-supported beneficial effects on the skin. It is able to restore the barrier function of the skin, moisturizes the skin by attracting and retaining water to the skin’s surface, and has some wound healing properties.
Undaria pinnatifida extract is a beneficial humectant moisturizing ingredient in skincare products and might also function as a thickener and a film-forming ingredient due to its gel-like consistency.
