Overview

Trisodium EDTA is a close cousin to tetrasodium EDTA, and both of these compounds act as chelating agents.

A chelating agent is a molecule that is chemically designed to encapsulate potentially harmful heavy metal ions that enter the formula through the water source. Once encapsulated, these heavy metal ions become inert and can be easily rinsed away.

By essentially removing the heavy metal ions from the product, trisodium EDTA also serves to stabilize the formula, maintain clarity in clear products, and to protect products from degradation over time.
