Tremella fuciformis is an edible mushroom, also known as snow fungus, snow ear, or silver ear fungus. It is a parasitic mushroom, growing on wet rotten wood and consuming other species of mushrooms. It is considered a delicacy in China because of its gelatinous consistency.
The mushroom is full of various proteins, fiber, and polysaccharides. The polysaccharides are responsible for its gelatinous consistency and ability to retain water.
The extract shows some promising activities in water retention and collagen stimulation, and so is used as a humectant moisturizing ingredient.
