Steareth-21

One of several emulsifiers in the 'steareth' group that helps oils and water mix, especially in highly acidic emulsions. It also offers a cleansing effect to the skin.
Functions
Origin
Steareth-21

Overview

Steareth-21 is a waxy solid reaction product of a clear gas and stearyl alcohol. The number of the steareth depends on the number of ethylene oxide units used in a reaction process. Hence, it takes 21 units of ethylene oxide to produce steareth-21.

This ingredient offers a cleansing effect to the skin. It also exhibits emulsifying properties in a formula by helping oils and water mix, especially in highly acidic emulsions. Steareth-21 is sometimes used with steareth-2 to create more stable emulsions.
