An under-researched extract obtained from the eggplant fruit. Eggplant contains plant pigments called anthocyanins and phenolic compounds, such as chlorogenic acid, which are excellent antioxidants.

Overview

Solanum melongena fruit extract is an antioxidant extract obtained from eggplant/aubergine fruit.

Not much is known about the effects of eggplant fruit extract on the skin, but we can assume that this extract may have antioxidant properties from what little is known.

Eggplant peels contain plant pigments called anthocyanins, which are very good antioxidants. The browning of the cut eggplant is caused by phenolic compounds, mainly chlorogenic acid, which is also an antioxidant.

One study suggests that eggplant fruit extract is able to protect cells from DNA damage.

Any studies that observe the effect of eggplant fruit extract on the human skin are completely missing, however.
