Overview

Solanum lycopersicum fruit extract is a bright red antioxidant extract from tomato fruit, the same ones that we eat.

The main bioactive constituent from tomato fruit is a carotenoid called lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant. Lycopene has been shown in various studies to protect the skin against UV-induced photoaging and to improve skin texture.

Tomatoes also contain various phenolic acids and flavonoids, which enhance the overall antioxidant effects of lycopene.

Tomato fruit extract is a beneficial addition to any skincare product and, naturally, might make the product a shade of red depending on the lycopene content.
