Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate

Overview

Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate is an anionic surfactant, which means it acts primarily as a cleansing agent. Compared to ethoxylated sulfates, this cleanser is much milder on the skin.

However, it still is not commonly used alone due to the irritation profile, so amphoteric surfactants are normally added to the skincare products to make them gentler on the skin. Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate is supplied as a waxy white powder or flake and will dissolve readily into the water phase.

This ingredient also serves as a foaming agent, where it gives a lightweight, high-volume foam to cleansing products.
