Overview

Sodium chondroitin sulfate is a compound related to hyaluronic acid, both of them belonging to the group of glycosaminoglycans. Sodium chondroitin sulfate consists of many repeating sugar units and is a part of connective tissues such as joints, cartilage, and skin.

Similarly to hyaluronic acid, sodium chondroitin sulfate molecules are simply too big to penetrate the skin and will do nothing in terms of delivering chondroitin into the deeper skin layers.

It is able to create a film on the skin’s surface that binds and retains water and keeps the skin hydrated. Studies show that it also has additional antioxidant and soothing properties.
