Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate

Overview

Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate is an anionic surfactant, which means it is negatively charged and serves as a powerful cleansing agent.

This ingredient is often used as a milder alternative to sulfates, but it still has some irritation properties to it if used alone in a skin cleanser. Therefore, sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate is often used alongside amphoteric surfactants, such as cocamidopropyl betaine, to create a gentle cleansing product.

This ingredient, supplied as a viscous yellow liquid, also acts as a good foaming agent, as it produces a lot of lightweight, high-volume foam during lather.
