Overview
Simethicone is a polydimethylsiloxane fluid combined with silica.
The primary function of this ingredient is as a powerful antifoaming agent. In products where foaming is not desired, such as in lotions or creams, simethicone is an excellent option to reduce or eliminate foaming behavior that may be caused by certain emulsifiers.
Simethicone can also double as an emollient, due to the silicone nature of the ingredient. The siloxane character leads to a dry, cushiony, and fast-spreading feel when applied to the skin, which makes this a good emollient option for nonnatural formulations.
