Overview
Silica silylate is a free-flowing white powder that is hydrophobic, or compatible with oils. Frequently utilized for its viscosity controlling abilities, this ingredient can be added to oils to create an oil gel or to the oil phase of an emulsion to thicken the product.
In the latter case, silica silylate is also emulsion stabilizing. In addition, silica silylate produces a velvety soft texture when added to skincare products, so it serves as an emollient in this sense.
Other functions of this synthetic ingredient include anticaking, antifoaming, bulking and dispersing of other solid ingredients.
