Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Extract

Sesamum indicum seed extract is an emollient and soothing extract derived from sesame seeds. These seeds are naturally rich in an oil that is sometimes applied to the skin on its own (read about it here).

Sesame seed extract contains a bit of this emollient oil, similarly emollient phytosterols, and other compounds with antioxidant and soothing properties such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, and lignans. The lignans in particular (sesamol, sesamin, and sesamolin) are praised for their antioxidant properties and ability to stabilize the oil phase of the cosmetic product.
