Sea whip extract is an extract obtained from soft sea corals from the family of Alcyonacea, formerly known as Gorgonians, commonly called sea fans or sea whips.
According to the patent holder, sea whip extract is anti-inflammatory and able to reduce redness, inflammation, and the appearance of dilated veins in the skin. The patent holder states that this claim is not bound to any scientific theory, however, and so we cannot be sure of these claims.
The research regarding Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae (the species most commonly referred to as sea whip) contains information about various terpenoid compounds which might have anti-inflammatory properties, but there have yet to be any tests done on human skin.
