Overview
Sambucus nigra flower extract is derived from the black elder (or elderberry) plant. Commonly found in Britain and northern Europe, this flowering plant produces dark berries which are mildly poisonous to humans but which are edible after they're cooked.
The elderberry plant has been used as a herbal remedy for colds and flu. In cosmetic products, it offers soothing and refreshing effects to the skin. Elderflower extract has also shown antioxidant activity enabled by phenolic compounds such as flavonoids.
