Overview

Saccharomyces/Copper ferment is a special biotechnological ingredient that serves to supplement copper to the skin.

According to the patent description, this ingredient is made by feeding copper minerals to Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a species of single-cell yeast that is used for making beer, wine, baker’s yeast, and other fermented products.

The yeast cells have the ability to turn inorganic copper minerals into an organic form of copper - the so-called chelated copper. The advantage of chelated copper is mainly the improved absorption (chelated copper is believed to penetrate the skin more readily than its inorganic counterpart).

Copper is essential for the creation of elastin, a protein that holds the shape of the skin. Copper is also a necessary component for some antioxidant enzymes.
