Overview

Rosemary extract is produced from the fragrant, spicy leaves of rosemary (now with a new latin name, Salvia rosmarinus, previously called Rosmarinus officinalis). This extract is used for its antioxidant and astringent properties.

This ingredient is such a strong antioxidant because of two potent antioxidant agents in its composition - carnosol and carnosic acid. It also has anti-inflammatory and astringent properties (due to its content of phenolic acids).

Rosemary extract contains a fragrant essential oil that can be found in rosemary leaves, and that, in some people, can potentially cause skin irritation or allergic reactions.
