Rosa canina fruit extract is an extract from the fruits of the Rosa canina, better known as rosehip. These fruits are red in color and ripen in autumn on the prickly bushes of wild dog rose.
Rosehips can be used to make jams and preserves, or dried and used in herbal teas. They contain carotenoids (which give them their bright orange-red color), high amounts of vitamin C, flavonoids, tannins, and organic acids.
All of these compounds are antioxidants and so this extract will protect the skin from oxidative damage when it is used in skincare products. Tannins are astringent and may leave the skin feeling tight.
