Overview

Ribes nigrum seed oil is a richly emollient and occlusive moisturizing fatty oil extracted from the seeds of the black currant (Ribes nigrum).

It is a unique plant oil due to its content of gamma-linolenic acid (12-25%), alpha-linolenic acid (10-19%), and linoleic acid (43-58%). This is one of the highest contents of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the entire plant kingdom and it makes the black currant seed oil a uniquely beneficial ingredient, especially for oily and acne-prone skin types.

Due to the tendency of polyunsaturated fatty acids to go rancid very easily, however, skincare products containing black currant seed oil have to be carefully protected from light and air.
