Rhodiola rosea root extract is an antioxidant and emollient extract obtained from the underground parts of the Golden Root or Roseroot (Rhodiola rosea).
This plant has gained the attention of scientists over recent years due to reports claiming that the root extract can help treat anxiety, depression, and fatigue. This is mostly based on the traditional use of Rhodiola in Siberia. There has also been some very good research regarding its skincare properties.
Rhodiola rosea root extract contains various phytochemicals that mostly have antioxidant effects, such as flavonoids, proanthocyanidins, and phenylpropanoids. An anti-tyrosinase effect was also described (inhibiting the synthesis of the skin pigment melanin), making the root extract a prospective anti-pigment ingredient for skin pigmentation issues.
