Overview

Pumice is a type of volcanic rock that consists of rough, textured volcanic glass. This rock is formed when super-heated rock under high-pressure is violently ejected from a volcano. The rapid reduction in temperature and pressure creates the unique texture.

In skincare products, pumice is commonly used as an abrasive to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. It can be supplied in a range of formats, from a fine powder to a whole rock.

Pumice can also be used as a bulking agent or as a viscosity controlling agent, in which it thickens the products it is added to.
