Overview

Polyquaternium-7 is a cationic copolymer based upon acrylamide and diallyldimethylammonium chloride. Being cationic means that this ingredient is positively charged, and the fact that it is a polyquaternium ingredient indicates that the positive charge is centered around a nitrogen atom.

Cationic ingredients are commonly found in hair conditioning products, as they assist with keeping the hair moisturized. In skincare products, this ingredient is used as a film-former, which protects the other ingredients in the product from being rinsed away too easily with water. Polyquaternium-7 is supplied as a clear, colorless liquid, and it is soluble in water and glycerin.
