Overview

Phospholipids are a large group of lipids that are an essential component of every single cell membrane in the body. Their molecules have a water-soluble phosphoric acid head and two oil-soluble tails made of fatty acids. They are isolated from various plant oils and have excellent emollient properties. Products containing phospholipids are reported to provide an extraordinary sensorial profile.

They can be used as emulsifying agents due to their chemical properties and are also utilized in the manufacturing of ‘fancy’ formulations such as liposomes - which are used to deliver active compounds into the deeper skin layers.
