Overview

PEG/PPG-18/18 dimethicone is a synthetic emulsifier based on silicones. Often diluted with dimethicone or cyclopentasiloxane, this ingredient is useful for producing non-sticky and non-greasy water-in-silicone emulsions.

PEG stands for polyethylene glycol, while PPG stands for polypropylene glycol, and both of these are subunits that repeat 18 times each within this ingredient, as denoted by the 18/18. This basically means that PEG/PPG-18/18 dimethicone is a robust emulsifier with a knack for producing highly stable emulsions at low use levels.

In addition to being very stable, these emulsions have excellent slip and absorb quickly into the outer layers of the skin.
