Overview

PEG-40 stearate is an emulsifying ingredient that falls in the category of polyethylene glycols, or PEGs.

This PEG in particular is excellent at emulsifying water and oil together to form oil-in-water emulsions. These synthetic, water soluble polymers are great for holding together a wide range of skincare products, from body lotions to face creams, and they are capable of imparting a variety of aesthetics to each product.

Due to its water-loving nature, PEG-40 stearate can also act as a cleansing agent. When used in soaps, the molecules of this ingredient surround dirt and oils on the skin and allow them to be rinsed away by water.
