Overview

Papain is an enzyme obtained from papaya fruits that is able to break down proteins. It is similar to bromelain, an enzyme obtained from pineapple fruits.

Papain has some skin softening properties and mild exfoliating activity and it is used in a similar way to bromelain – to help with the healing of wounds and scars, to soften scabs, and to prevent the formation of overgrown scar tissue.
