Overview

p-Anisic acid is a simple phenolic acid, chemically called p-methoxybenzoic acid. It is a crystalline substance that is soluble in mainly alcohol and oil.

In skincare products, p-anisic acid is used as a preservative due to its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. It will make a skincare product last longer and protect it from harmful oxidation and from being contaminated by microorganisms.

p-Anisic acid is reported to have a very faint, sweet, and slightly animal and cadaverous aroma. It can be found in anise, fennel, and cocoa seeds, but can also be manufactured synthetically.
