Overview

Oryza sativa bran oil, or rice bran oil, is extracted from the hard outer layer of rice (Oryza sativa) grains. It is naturally very high in omega-6 fatty acids (mainly linoleic acid), vitamin E, and a compound called γ-oryzanol, which is a potent antioxidant.

In skincare, it is used as a base oil, a solvent, and an occlusive and emollient agent. It supplies antioxidants to the skin due to its vitamin E and oryzanol content and may have beneficial effects on dry or sun-damaged skin, eczema, and dermatitis.

The emulsions of rice bran oil are very stable and even suitable for use on sensitive or infant skin.
