Overview

Nordihydroguaiaretic acid is an antioxidant phytochemical obtained from the creosote bush (Larrea tridentata), but it can also be created synthetically. Nordihydroguaiaretic acid chemically belongs to the class of lignans.

Although there have been some experiments regarding its activities against various types of skin cancer, and even though it has been registered as a medical cream against the same thing, there is not much known about its mechanism of action. It is only known for sure that it is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound.

There have been some reports on the toxicity of nordihydroguaiaretic acid after its ingestion, but the matter needs more vigilance and clinical studies.
