Nelumbo nucifera leaf extract is extracted from the leaves of the Indian lotus, one of the species usually referred to as "water lily". This lotus is valued and considered sacred in Hindu and Buddhist religions and is the national flower of India and Vietnam.
The leaves of the Indian lotus contain organic acids, flavonoids, and alkaloids - which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity. In skincare, lotus leaf extract might alleviate the issues associated with inflamed, irritated, and acne-prone skin.
It is a traditional remedy for wound healing and may therefore help with the healing of small cuts and spots.
