Overview

Morus alba leaf extract is an extract obtained from the leaves of the Morus alba, a white mulberry tree. The tree is most commonly known as a food source for silkworms during the production of natural silk. The berries are also edible and used in jams and preserves, or eaten dried.

The leaves, apart from being fed to silkworms, are used in traditional medicine all over the world. They are rich in flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, and special compounds called mulberrosides.

The leaf extract has potent antioxidant, astringent, and antimicrobial activity, and it has even been suggested that it could be used as a skin-whitening agent.

Morus alba leaf extract also acts as an emollient ingredient, with overall beneficial effects on the skin. Due to its particularly strong antimicrobial and antifungal effects, it is especially beneficial for acne-prone skin.
