Overview

Lonicera japonica flower extract is an extract from the fragrant white flowers of the Japanese honeysuckle, Lonicera japonica. Japanese honeysuckles are widely used in China and Japan as a traditional herbal remedy. The extract has a sweet, jasmin-like fragrance, as well as antioxidant properties.

The flowers of Japanese honeysuckle have been collected and used for their scent for centuries. The main components of the essential oil responsible for the sweet, jasmin-like scent are linalool, jasmone, jasmin lactone, and methyl jasmonate. Naturally, the exact composition varies according to location and also depends on the time of year that the flower was collected.

The flowers and the entire plant are not only fragrant, but rich in iridoids, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
