Overview

Lavender extract is obtained from the flowers, stems, and leaves of true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). It is used for its soothing and calming scent in skincare products.

Lavender is one of the most popular fragrant herbs, with lavender remedies having centuries of tradition. The extract of lavender flowers mostly contains lavender essential oil. The lavender-scented compounds are linalool and linalyl acetate, which are the main constituents of lavender essential oil.

The flower extract, however, contains other beneficial phytochemicals such as flavonoids, terpenes, and phenolic acids, which have antioxidant and astringent effects on the skin.

The important thing to remember with all essential oils and fragrant extracts is that some people might be sensitive to the fragrant compounds and it may cause an allergic rash.
