Lauryl Lactate

Overview

Lauryl lactate is an ester of lactic acid (an AHA) with lauryl alcohol (a medium-chain fatty alcohol). It is a colorless and odorless liquid, although, after some degradation (either due to incorrect storage or enzymes on the skin) the lauryl alcohol part might release its gentle floral scent.

This ingredient is used as an emollient ingredient in skincare products, with some research showing that it might enhance the penetration of other ingredients through the skin.
