Overview
Isopropyl isostearate is a clear, colorless emollient ester. This ingredient is known for its excellent spreadability and long play time, and it is commonly used for skincare products that require improved lubricity, such as mineral sunscreens and stick products. It lacks the greasiness often associated with extended play time.
Isopropyl isostearate can also be used as a solvent. It can dissolve a wide range of oils, from nonpolar squalane to highly polar phenyl ethyl benzoate, and it can also be used to suspend solid particles, such as sunscreen mineral actives or colorants like mica or iron oxides.
This ingredient is listed among common comedogenic ingredients by acne.org.
