Overview

Isobutane is a colorless, odorless material that exists in its gaseous state at room temperature. This ingredient is commonly used as a propellant in products dispensed from an aerosol can.

Propellants are ingredients that are highly volatile, meaning they evaporate quickly at normal temperatures. They are compressed into their liquid state inside aerosol cans and mixed with the skincare product inside. When the trigger is depressed, the pressure inside the can is released, and the mixture of the propellant and the product is expelled.

The propellant quickly evaporates, leaving only the product on the skin. This aerosol action can also produce a foaming effect by filling the product with gas bubbles upon dispensing.
