Overview

CI 77491 is the official name for the ingredient more commonly known as red iron oxide. This is an EU approved colorant used in a wide variety of products, from foundations and CC creams to lotions and face masks.

Sometimes red iron oxides are used as-is, being that they are not soluble in water or oil, but they are dispersible in each. However, they are more often coated with a hydrophobic, or oil-loving, layer to help more easily disperse them into the oil phases of various products.
