Overview

Hydrogenated vegetable glycerides are emollient and thickening ingredients made from various vegetable oils.

First, the triglycerides are separated from the rest of the oil (e.g. free fatty acids, phytosterols, waxes) and then hydrogenated to get rid of all unsaturated double bonds. The resulting fat consists solely of saturated triglycerides and so is solid or semi-solid and margarine-like.

It tends to leave a sticky, oily film, so is best suited for very dry skin. It also works as a thickener for a skincare formula due to its consistency.
