Overview

Hexyl laurate is an ester made from the hexyl alcohol and lauric acid. This ester functions as a very fast-spreading emollient, in which it leaves the skin appearing softer and smoother by filling in the microcracks in the surface of the skin.

Hexyl laurate is commonly used in water-in-oil emulsions or in anhydrous products in order to lighten the feel of a heavier oil load. This ingredient can also serve as a solvent but is frequently passed on for this purpose and replaced by more cost-effective options.
