Overview

Glycolipids is a blanket term used to describe lipids that are combined with one or multiple sugar residues. These types of molecules are ever-present in all living cells, where they form membranes.

For the purpose of skincare manufacturing, they are either isolated from plant oils or created by microorganisms via biotechnological processes.

They have many different applications and, due to their water-soluble sugar part, can be used as humectant moisturizers, emulsifiers, or gentle cleansers. The rinse-off products made with glycolipids are very mild and don't dry out the skin.
