Glycol Stearate

Overview

Glycol stearate is a solid, white ester that contains a long and straight carbon chain. This vegetable-derived ingredient is a heavier emollient, with an almost waxy aesthetic, and it provides a smooth and soft appearance to the skin.

Glycol stearate also serves as an emulsifier, where it is helpful in producing water-in-oil emulsions with help from other similar emulsifiers, such as polygylceryl-3 polyricinoleate. When used in oil-in-water emulsions, this ingredient works to stabilize and thicken the emulsion.

Additionally, glycol stearate can opacify products, in which it produces a pearly, white color in the bulk product.
