Overview

Glyceryl oleate is a nonionic surfactant that can be used in both skin cleansers and leave-on skincare products.

In leave-on skincare products, such as lotions and creams, glyceryl oleate acts as an emulsifier, where it produces water-in-oil emulsions. It can also act as a thickening agent and an emulsion stabilizer when used in oil-in-water emulsions.

Glyceryl oleate also appears in cleansing products, in which it provides viscosity control in the form of thickening along with the refatting. Refatting is the process of increasing the bulk and density of a cleansing or conditioning product.
