Gardenia jasminoides, or Gardenia florida, are two names for the same flowering shrub originating from China. It is commonly grown as a houseplant or decorative bush because of its beautiful fragrant white flowers which are similar to jasmin.
The fruits are dark orange in color and are a source of natural orange/yellow dye. Gardenia yellow pigment has been the most important source of a natural colorant for food, cloth, and paint for thousands of years.
In skincare, Gardenia florida fruit extract is used as a colorant.
