Overview

Fragaria vesca fruit extract is an antioxidant and astringent extract derived from strawberry fruits. Strawberries are a favorite summer fruit and have a long tradition of use in skincare, usually mashed and used directly as a face mask.

Strawberries contain various phytochemicals beneficial for the skin such as vitamin C, flavonoids, organic acids, red pigments called anthocyanins (antioxidant functions), tannins (which are astringent, giving the skin a tightened feeling and reducing the appearance of large pores), and a special compound from strawberry seeds called tiliroside (which promotes the synthesis of ceramides in the skin).

Skincare products containing strawberry extracts have been thought to be a good prevention against UV-induced skin aging, thanks to the antioxidant powers of strawberries.
