Folic Acid

Overview

Folic acid is the precursor to folate, which is also known as vitamin B9. Folate is the compound that the body turns folic acid into when consumed as a dietary supplement, and it serves a wide range of functions within the body, including lowering the risk of birth defects when taken by pregnant women and decreasing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

In skincare products, folic acid is thought to reduce the signs of aging and boost collagen production when applied topically.

However, more research must be conducted in order to confirm these claims.
