Foeniculum vulgare fruit extract is a fragrant extract derived from fennel fruits (commonly called fennel seeds). They are used as a kitchen spice or in herbal teas, as well as as a fragrant ingredient in skincare due to their high content of essential oil. The fennel essential oil has a warm, spicy aroma caused by a volatile compound called anethole.
Fennel seeds also contain a fatty, non-volatile oil that has emollient properties. In practice, the volatile and non-volatile oils in the fennel fruit extract are mixed together, resulting in a very fragrant, emollient extract.
As with all fragrant ingredients, it is only used in the product in small amounts to lower the chances of a fragrance allergy. But, if you are sensitive, then you should definitely test the product first.
