Overview

Evodia rutaecarpa fruit extract is a very bitter extract obtained from the fruits of the Evodia rutaecarpa, a Chinese tree used in traditional Chinese medicine. The fruits, as well as the whole tree, contain alkaloids, of which the best described is the alkaloid Evodiamine.

In recent years, evodiamine has been the subject of an increasing number of scientific publications, monitoring its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and various other activities.

In the context of skincare, studies have shown its ability to suppress skin inflammation and protect against UV-induced skin damage. This makes Evodia rutaecarpa fruit extract a potentially beneficial ingredient for irritated and inflamed skin.

There are some warnings about the toxicity of evodiamine, but those are aimed at the orally-ingested plant extracts. You should have nothing to worry about with the topical skincare products.
