Overview

Euterpe oleracea fruit oil is a fatty, emollient oil extracted from the fruits of the açaí palm. These fruits have gained international attention as a “miracle fruit”, although sadly their reality is much more reserved.

The oil is extremely rich in phenolic compounds such as vanillic, syringic, and ferulic, as well as other organic acids, catechin, and procyanidins (which give the oil additional antioxidant and astringent properties, and the characteristic dark green color).

Euterpe oleracea oil is also similar in color and quality to avocado oil – it contains mainly oleic acid (60%) followed by palmitic (22%) and linoleic acid (12%).

It is a rarely used, but a very beneficial, oil for skincare purposes. It is emollient and occlusive and may be less suitable for acne-prone skin types due to its high levels of oleic acid triglycerides.
